Billing and cost rates

Settings → Invoicing and prices → Rates defines the hourly rates project finance and billing are calculated with. A rate’s Type is one of two:

  • Cost (€/h) is the employer’s cost – project costs and margin are calculated with it.
  • Billing (€/h) is the price billed to the customer.

A rate gets a Scope: the organisation default, a role, a person, a project, or a person on a project. When several rates match the same hour, the most specific match wins – person-on-project beats the project, which beats the person, the role and the organisation default.

Rates are versioned: a new rate starts from the chosen date, and old periods are calculated with the old rate. A retroactive change therefore does not alter already calculated margins.

The Entry type field limits a rate to a single entry type – overtime, for example, can have its own billing rate.
