Read the message in the app or on the time-clock device. If the connection dropped while clocking in or out, check the session status or pending queue first. Do not repeat the action until you know whether the first attempt was saved.
A previous session is still open
If you forgot to clock out, enter the actual end time if that option is available. Otherwise, end the session and correct the day draft to reflect the work actually done.
See A forgotten or incorrect punch.
A required selection is missing
Select the project, task, tracking field, entry type or billability requested by the message. If the correct option is missing, ask your supervisor to check the options and your permissions.
Clocking out may require a reason. Choose one that matches the situation. If none does, ask an administrator to check the available reasons.
Location is unavailable or outside the allowed area
Allow location access for the app or browser and enable the device’s location services. If clocking in is restricted to a worksite, do it at that site.
If you are at the correct site but still blocked, ask an administrator to check its location and permitted radius. Do not choose an incorrect site or alter location data to bypass the restriction.
The device time is wrong
If the message says the clock-in or clock-out time is in the future, check the device’s date, time and time zone. Enable automatic time and check the session status before trying again.
Clocking in is not enabled
Organisation or staff-group settings may prevent clocking in. Ask an administrator which time-entry method you should use.
The card or time-clock device does not work
- Tell your supervisor the number displayed for a newly registered tag so they can assign it to the right person.
- If the tag is waiting for assignment, try again after it has been assigned.
- If the tag is not recognised, an administrator can check its assignment, access and the device’s connection.
- If the device is deactivated, an administrator should check the situation before reactivating it.
- Without a connection, the device may not have all the information it needs. Check the connection and any pending clock-in or clock-out records.
Clocking in worked, but the hours are wrong
Correct the time in the day draft. If the day is already confirmed or approved, see I can’t edit a workday. The original clock-in and clock-out records remain in the history.
